Yahoo Group
The Guild has an email group at Yahoo Groups. The group enables us to keep in touch between meetings and share ideas. If you would like to join the group please contact Susan Brittingham, by email and ask her for an invitation. If you are a current member of the OCGQG then you are eligible to join the group and will be very welcome!

Library Quilt Blocks
In 2009 the call went out to anyone who loved Floyd County to submit a quilt block to be included in a community quilt to be hung in the new library. We received 70 blocks and the blocks were made into three quilts. The quilts were finished and hung at the 2009 Quilt Show. They now adorn the walls of the Jesse Peterman Library in Floyd.

About the Guild

On July 7, 1986 a meeting was held at the Old Church Gallery to consider setting up a quilt guild. Catherine Pauley gave an outline of things to be considered and the following was adapted as our "purpose":

The Old Church Galley Quilting Guild shall come together as a group whose main purpose shall be to:

  • Establish a framework within which experienced and beginning quilters may learn from one another, sharing techniques and quilting advances.
  • To foster within the community, an awareness of quilting as both a historical and a living creative contribution to our lives as a community.

There were approximately 12 members in the beginning.  Meetings were held monthly at the Old Church Gallery, which at that time was in the OLD Presbyterian Church on Main Street.

The By-Laws of the guild can be reviewed here: By-Laws

Programs

We have a featured program each month, either a guest speaker, a lecture, demonstrations or hands-on activity. Our speakers have included both regionally and nationally known teachers, some of whom are members of our own guild.

The guild is currently working on a Raffle Quilt which will be donated to our meeting place, the Jacksonville Center.

Visit the Programs page for the latest information on recent and upcoming programs.

Show and Tell

Each month we also have an opportunity to present our quilting accomplishments at show and tell. It is always fun and exciting to see what members of the guild have been doing.

Annual Activities

Each year the Old Church Gallery Quilter's Guild sponsors a Quilt Show, which is held in conjunction with the Woman's Club annual Arts and Crafts Fair. The show displays over 150 entries from across the US which include every sort of quilt from traditional to contemporary, and ranging from large bed quilts, to miniature quilts, with an always impressive display of wearable art. Each year we also have a featured quilt artist.

The bi-annual Blue Ridge Quilt Festival offers classes, vendors and a quilt show in nearby Blacksburg, VA. Many of our members help with the show and display their quilts at the festival.
