August 3, 2009

Judy Anderson presided over the meeting today. We had a little bit of business to conduct followed by show and tell. After show and tell, Guild members helped to pin baste the Library Quilts. The library quilt is an ongoing project lead by Judy Anderson with some help from Susan Brittingham. We are making three community quilts to hang in the Jessie Peterman Library of Floyd. Many Quilt Guild members have contributed blocks for inclusion in the quilts as have community members along with people who have fond memories of Floyd from as far away as Alabama. Judy and Susan arranged the blocks, sashed them and sewed them together. Now the quilt is basted.

The picture below gives you an idea of how the quilt looks with sashing. Larger photos of the blocks in the center portion of the quilt can be seen here: Library Quilt

Blocks of the Month

The block for July was Waterwheel Variation

The block for August will be: Clay's Choice

Show and Tell

Cathy Maycock made a baby quilt from some "vintage" Thimbleberries fabrics.

Gisela Mittman, a guest visiting the guild, shows her medallion quilt, an original design

Glenna Jones has been busy. At left she shows us one of her "Love" quilts, above a wall quilt. She also had made a number of pillows to donate to the fall Boutique, but showed them too fast for the photographer to capture.

Margaret Tomasik shows us a wonderful quilt she claims is easy to make from
Carol Britt's Toast and Jam pattern.
Margaret's great fabrics make a lovely quilt!

Vickie Green is learning to make needle lace.

Linda Fiedler made this quilt for her granddaughter, "Lucy Pixel".

Above: Geri Mattern Knitting an Afghan

Left: Bobby Trail made a fat quarter bag and a chicken pin cushion. Apologies for the photography, the chicken was really cute but flying too fast for me.

Camelia Elliot at left shows us her new apron, while below, she shows the quilt she made from blocks she was given as outgoing president from her guild in Texas.
