| The
"Rules" The challenge is to make a quilt, a
garment or other object that uses some aspect of your fortune cookie as inspiration. It
might be the fortune that inspires, the lucky numbers, or the "Learn to Speak
Chinese" message on the back. One might make a cookie shaped quilt, or make something
with a little Asian influence, or bring in a vest that you spilled some Moo Goo Gai Pan
on. Interpret the fortune any way you like, be traditional or innovative, abstract or
pictorial. Anything goes! The field is wide open and nothing is off limits, the size can
be anything from miniature to king sized, or can be any sort of garment: a hat, purse,
vest, jacket or ensemble. You are only limited by your imagination. Be colorful and have
fun. |

The challenges were unveiled
at the June picnic. Our guild rose to the challenge with large number of participants, and
a wide range of exciting projects, both completed and still in the idea phase. Small
prizes and beautiful ribbons were given to participants, based on the level of completion.
Those who were still in the great idea/planning stage received a Chinese folding fan,
which was quite welcome on a hot day. Those who had done more work on their project
received a colorful Chinese pincushion. And those who had substantially completed their
project were lucky enough to receive a beautiful ribbon, made by Lucy Ricardo, with help
from Martha Akers, to commemorate the event. |
