Guild Programs 2008

January 7: Show and Tell, Business and Camelia Elliott with be sharing with us about her love of smocking
January 21 UFO meeting. Canceled due to inclement weather.
Bring your UnFinished Objects to the meeting. We will hang them up and help you over the humps and bumps of getting the project finished. Last year we had a great time with this and a number of people were helped. Judy Anderson says, "I would also like to see if anyone has finished a project that they brought to the meeting last year. I believe Pauline Hodges finished one project."

Supply list
  • Clay – white is a good choice because you can paint it. With several colors you can marble the clay or mix colors. I prefer Sculpey over Fimo, but there is little difference. Both can be bought at Wal-Mart, Michaels and I believe JoAnn’s.
  • Cutting tools – exacto knife, or razor blade I have a clay cutter.
  • Sculpting tools or shaping tools. Anything from a tooth pick to a bobby pin. You really don’t need to run out and buy anything special.
  • Stamps
  • Rolling tools – I use a piece of PVC pipe, but you an use a dowel or a regular rolling pin Some people use a pasta machine to get pieces all the same depth and to condition the clay.
  • Work surface – glass or ceramic tile.
  • Acrylic paint – if you want to paint the buttons.
  • A toaster oven I will be bringing on and Kathy Young will be bringing a second oven.
  • Parchment paper. I will have a roll to share.

June 2 Love Quilt Workshop(all day)
We will be making a 37" x 37" Simplified Attic Window Quilt, which is a quick and easy way to showcase novelty prints
Supply list for the Love Quilt Workshop
  • 3/4 yard Novelty print - This is the fabric that provides the "view through the attic window".
  • 5/8 yard each of two related colors in two different values - These fabrics are used for the attic window frames
  • 1 3/8 yd of deeper fabric in same color as attic window frames - used for sashing and a 1" outer border
  • 1/8 yd contrasting fabric for corner stones
The quilt can easily be enlarged by adding one or more borders, or by adding another row of blocks.

**** Workshop Policies ****

Your place in a workshop is secured once you pay the workshop fee. A minimum number of paid registrations must be reached before a commitment will be made to the instructor. There will be a deadline for this decision. If the workshop is not held for lack of registrations, all class fees will be returned to those members having paid. Once the commitment is made to the instructor to hold the workshop, no refunds can be given. However, you are free to sell your space to another person. Please make out all checks to the Old Church Gallery Quilters Guild. Thank you.
